Type Locality and Naming

Along the village of Sadivar, Amu Darya River, NE Turkmenistan. A.I. Smolko, 1948 (421, p. 1615).

Synonym: Sadyvarskaya Suite, Садыварская св.


Lithology and Thickness

Lake limestone clays, marls, siltstone (aleurolites), and sands. Thickness 10-40m.


Lithology Pattern: 
Continental marl


Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Overlies with erosion on the Dengizkul-Neog Fm. and on older rocks up to the Cretaceous.

Upper contact

Overlain with erosion by the Tashakyr Fm.

Regional extent

Southwestern Kyzylkumy and Karakumy along the Amu Darya River, Minbulakskaya depression, Zirabulak-Ziaetdin district.

Fossils

Contains ostracods - Cyprideis littoralis Br., C. torosa Jones, Ilyocypris Gibba Ramdohr., Darwinula stevensoni Br. et Robert., Limnocythere intermedia Liv., L. deluvialis Mand., Cyclocypris sp.; mollusks - Avimactra karabugasica Andrus., Melanoides apscheronica Andrus., Carbicula fluminalis Miill. var. apscheronica Andrus., Theodoxus cf. pallusi Lindu.


Age 

A.I. Aynemer et al. (41), in the Strat. sl. (444) attributed the formation to the Upper Pliocene. G.Yu. Alferov, V.G. Danilov (166) date it to the Apscheronian (Eopleistocene). According to B.I. Pinhasov (346), it corresponds to the period of maximum Middle Apscheronian transgression.
